Beverley Guildhall

Eighteenth-century town hall and former magistrates' court, now open as a museum

The Guildhall on Register Square has been the seat of Beverley's civic government in one form or another since the fourteenth century, though the present buildings are eighteenth- and nineteenth-century. Behind the modest exterior is a remarkably good Georgian council chamber with elaborate plasterwork by Giuseppe Cortese, and a Victorian magistrates' courtroom largely preserved as it was when last used.

Now run as a small museum and open free to visitors on selected days. Worth checking the opening times before you make a special trip; the interior is the point.
