The Royal Hall is a Grade II* listed concert hall attached to the Harrogate Convention Centre, built in 1903 to designs by Frank Matcham — one of the great theatre architects of the Edwardian era. The interior is remarkably intact: a deep horseshoe auditorium with gilded boxes, ornate plasterwork, and an atmospheric, slightly faded grandeur that Matcham's London theatres have long since lost to refurbishment. It seats around 1,300.
The Royal Hall hosts concerts, ballet, comedy, and events throughout the year. Even if you are not attending a performance, the building is worth seeing from outside — the curved terracotta facade and the dome are among the most striking pieces of Victorian architecture in north Yorkshire.
