Birchcliffe Baptist Church stands above Hebden Bridge and speaks to the valley's strong nonconformist tradition. The Pennine textile towns were shaped as much by chapels, co-operatives, and reform politics as by mills.
It is a selective stop, but a useful one if you are interested in the social history behind the scenery. The climb also gives you a better sense of how tightly Hebden Bridge is packed into its valley.
