Green Howards Regimental Museum

Yorkshire regimental museum housed in a deconsecrated 12th-century church

Address Trinity Church Square, Richmond DL10 4QN

The Green Howards Museum tells three centuries of the Yorkshire Regiment's history, from its founding in 1688 through the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimea, both World Wars, and on into modern peacekeeping deployments. The displays are dense — uniforms, medals, weapons, regimental silver, paintings of forgotten battles — but the curators do a good job of pinning each object to a specific soldier's story.

The setting is part of the appeal: Holy Trinity Church, which fills the centre of the market square, dates back to the 12th century in parts and was deconsecrated to house the museum in 1973. The Victoria Cross collection on the upper floor is one of the largest held by any regimental museum in the country.
