York has excellent rail connections, which is by some distance the most convenient way to arrive. London King's Cross to York takes under two hours on LNER services, with trains running roughly every half hour through most of the day. Regular direct services also connect York to Edinburgh (2.5 hours), Leeds (25 minutes), Manchester (1 hour 15 minutes), and Birmingham (2 hours). The station is a 10-minute walk from the city centre along Station Road, or a few minutes by taxi.
By road, York lies on the A64 from Leeds and is close to the A1(M). Driving into the city centre is not recommended: parking is expensive and the medieval street layout is not designed for cars. Park and Ride sites operate from several points around the city's ring road, with regular buses into the centre. The nearest international airport is Leeds Bradford, about 25 miles to the west; Manchester Airport (50 miles) has a wider range of international routes.
