Cashtal yn Ard

One of the Isle of Man's best Neolithic chambered tombs, set high above Maughold.

Cashtal yn Ard, the Castle of the Heights, is one of the Isle of Man's strongest prehistoric sites. The long cairn has lost much of its covering stone, but the chamber structure remains clear enough to read, with upright slabs and a raised position over the Maughold landscape.

It is worth seeking out because it has both age and setting. Manx National Heritage describes it as an exceptional Neolithic long cairn, and the views help explain why the place still feels ceremonial. Pair it with Laxey or the east-coast antiquities rather than rushing it as a roadside curiosity.
