Great Laxey Mine Railway

A short but satisfying narrow-gauge heritage railway that runs on the original tramway used by miners to move ore from the Great Laxey Mine to processing facilities in the valley below. The quarter-mile line operates on Saturdays between Easter and September, with trains running every few minutes.

The railway opened in 2004 as a restoration project, using replica wagons built to the original specifications. It is a gentle ride, but the context — the towering wheel, the mine chimney, the valley walls closing in — gives it a distinct character. It works well combined with the mine trail, which you can walk before or after the train ride.
