SS Nomadic

The SS Nomadic is the last remaining White Star Line ship in the world, preserved in the Hamilton Dock in Belfast's Titanic Quarter. The little ship has had an extraordinary career: Titanic tender, troopship in both World Wars, floating restaurant in Paris, river ferry — before being brought home to Belfast in 2006 for restoration.

The Nomadic can be explored from bow to stern, and the restoration has been done with care. The first-class lounge is particularly fine. The ship gives a more intimate sense of the Titanic era than the main museum does — you can walk the same decks that Titanic passengers walked. Included in Titanic Belfast tickets or separately priced.

A story
The SS Nomadic was built at the same Harland & Wolff shipyard as the Titanic, in 1911, to serve as a tender ship — ferrying passengers and luggage from Cherbourg harbour out to ocean liners that were too large to dock. The Nomadic carried 274 first and second class passengers to the Titanic on 10 April 1912. It went on to serve as a tender for decades after, ending its working life in 1968.
