Dundee Botanic Garden

The University of Dundee's botanic garden occupies a sloping 9-hectare site west of the city centre, with sweeping views down the Tay. Founded in 1971, it is one of the youngest botanical gardens in Britain but already mature in feel. The plantings are organised by global region: a Scottish native woodland, a Mediterranean garden, alpine collections, a tropical glasshouse with cycads and orchids.

The garden is open daily; modest entry fee. The path down to the river end of the garden is the loveliest part, especially in spring when the rhododendrons bloom. Allow ninety minutes, longer for plant enthusiasts.
