Lemmings Statue

A small bronze tableau in Seabraes Yards depicts five of the green-haired, blue-robed lemmings from the puzzle game of the same name — one digger, one climber, one blocker, one floater, and one walking obliviously toward the edge. The statue is set on a low plinth at child-eye-level and was sculpted by Alan Herriot.

It is easy to miss if you are not looking for it — head down to the western waterfront from Perth Road and watch for it near the entrance to the public garden. A nice five-minute detour while walking between the city centre and the Science Centre.

A story
Lemmings was developed in 1990–91 by DMA Design — a Dundee studio better known today by its later name, Rockstar North, the creators of Grand Theft Auto. The game sold around fifteen million copies and helped establish Dundee as a serious centre of video-game development. The statue was unveiled in 2013, a quiet recognition that the city's biggest cultural export of the last forty years is software, not jute.
