St Mary's Metropolitan Cathedral

St Mary's Metropolitan Cathedral is Edinburgh's Roman Catholic cathedral, just off the eastern end of the New Town. It began as a chapel in 1814 and became a cathedral in 1886, with a neo-perpendicular design by James Gillespie Graham.

The interior is calm and handsome rather than grandstanding, making it a good short stop between Calton Hill, Broughton Street, and the shops around St James Quarter.
