Bars and Cafes

Edinburgh is one of the great pub cities of Britain. The Old Town is dense with timber-lined howffs and converted vaults; the New Town goes for high-Georgian gentility; Stockbridge and Leith have the best of the new wave of cocktail bars and craft-beer rooms. The city brews well too — Stewart, Pilot and Campervan are local names worth looking out for, and a proper dram of single malt is never more than a few steps away. Closing time is generally midnight or 1am, later for late-licence venues during the festival.
