Craigleith Island

A small uninhabited island in the Firth of Forth, just over a mile offshore from North Berwick's harbour. Craigleith was once one of the largest puffin colonies in Britain, with over 28,000 breeding pairs in the 1990s — until an invasive plant called tree mallow took over the burrows and the population collapsed. A conservation programme is slowly bringing the puffins back.

Boat trips from the harbour circle the island in summer; live cameras at the Scottish Seabird Centre give a closer look. The island is closed to landings.
