Muckle Flugga is the lighthouse at the far northern edge of Britain, perched on a jagged rock beyond Unst. You do not casually visit it; for most travellers it is a view earned from Hermaness, with seabirds, cliffs, and the Atlantic stretching north toward nowhere obvious.
That distance is the attraction. Walk the Hermaness route in good weather and look out beyond the gannets and skerries to the lighthouse, a tiny human mark in one of the wildest seascapes in the country.
