A small thatched blackhouse in the village of Colbost, restored and furnished as it would have been in the mid-19th century — a peat fire on the central hearth, the smoke escaping through the thatch, animals at one end and people at the other. The museum is privately run and pleasingly unfussy.
In the croft outbuildings there is a reconstructed illicit whisky still, a reminder of the long Highland tradition of evading the excise. Colbost is a couple of miles west of Dunvegan and the museum is open through the summer.
