About twelve miles south of Ullapool on the A835, Corrieshalloch is one of the finest box gorges in Britain. The River Droma has cut a slot sixty metres deep and a kilometre long through the rock, and the Falls of Measach — a single drop of roughly 45 metres — thunder into it at the upstream end.
A Victorian suspension footbridge crosses the gorge at the narrowest point, giving vertigo-inducing views straight down to the churning water below. The gorge is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and has a small car park; the walk to the bridge and viewpoint takes about twenty minutes return. It's a worthwhile stop on the way to or from Inverness.
