Ullapool itself is small — a single main street, a harbour, and a few hundred whitewashed houses arranged on a promontory — but the surrounding landscape is enormous. The real things to do here involve getting out into it: boat trips to the Summer Isles, hikes up into the Assynt mountains, and drives on roads that feel like they lead to the edge of the world.
