Chapel of St Trillo

Tiny seafront chapel, said to be the smallest in Britain

A tiny stone chapel on the promenade at Rhos-on-Sea, big enough inside for six people to sit and listen to a service. The current building dates from the 16th century but is thought to stand on a 6th-century cell of St Trillo, with a holy well still bubbling up through the floor inside the altar rail.

Open daily and free to enter. There is a visitor book and a candle stand, and weekly Anglican services are still held here despite the size of the place. A short walk along the seafront brings you to the Harlequin Puppet Theatre.

A story
The chapel is built over a holy well sacred to St Trillo, a 6th-century Welsh monk. Local tradition held that the water cured eye complaints, and parishioners would bring sick children to be dipped in it. Communion is still held in the chapel each week — congregation seated, six people maximum.
