Llandrindod Wells

Victorian Welsh spa town with lake walks, cycling history, and oddball Radnorshire charm.

Llandrindod Wells is the kind of Welsh town that makes more sense once you stop expecting drama. It grew as a Victorian spa resort, and the old hotels, theatre, lake, and parkland still give the centre a gentle, slightly eccentric air.

The town has enough for a slow half day if you are crossing Mid Wales. The National Cycle Museum is the strongest indoor sight, while Rock Park and Llandrindod Wells Lake handle the walking. The Albert Hall keeps the Victorian thread alive with a small theatre rather than a museum label.

This is not a place to detour across Britain for. But if you are already in Powys, or travelling the Heart of Wales Line, Llandrindod is a pleasant stop with a clear identity and a few sights that feel local rather than manufactured.
