The main day trip from Great Exuma is a boat excursion north through the Exuma Cays — typically combining the swimming pigs at Big Major Cay, Thunderball Grotto, the nurse sharks at Compass Cay, and the iguanas at Allen's Cay. Full-day tours run from George Town and cost $200-300 per person. It is a long day on the water but worth it.
Little Exuma is an easy half-day drive south from George Town, across the single-lane bridge. Stop at Tropic of Cancer Beach, eat lobster at Santanna's in Williams Town, and visit the remains of the Hermitage plantation — one of the oldest surviving plantation ruins in the Bahamas.
Nassau is a 35-minute flight away on Bahamasair and makes a feasible day trip if you want a dose of city, though most Exuma visitors are here precisely to avoid that sort of thing.
