Shopping in the Exumas is limited and that is part of the charm. The Straw Market near George Town's Government Dock sells handwoven baskets, hats, and bags — the Bahamian straw work tradition is genuine craft, not tourist tat. Exuma Markets on Queen's Highway is the main grocery store and a social hub in its own right. Sandpiper Arts and Crafts and Marilyn's Gift Shop, both on Queen's Highway, sell local art, jewellery, and souvenirs. Do not come here expecting retail therapy; come expecting to leave with a straw bag and a bottle of local hot sauce.
