Getting Around

Christ Church is the island's most accessible parish. The ABC Highway connects the airport and the south coast to Bridgetown in minutes, and the coastal road linking Hastings, Rockley, St. Lawrence Gap, and Oistins is easy to navigate on foot in sections or by car.

ZR minibuses (privately operated route taxis) run frequently along the south coast corridor and are cheap — the fare from St. Lawrence Gap to Bridgetown is a few Barbados dollars. They stop on request: flag one down on the road. Blue-and-yellow BTMI buses cover the same routes and are slightly slower but air-conditioned.

Taxis are plentiful but expensive by Caribbean standards. Agree on a price before you get in. Most hotels and guesthouses can arrange transfers.

Car rental is the most flexible option. Drive on the left. Parking at Accra Beach and along the Gap fills up quickly on weekends.

Cycling is feasible along the quieter south coast roads but the main highway is fast and has no dedicated lane — stick to side roads.
