Belize City rewards a few hours of exploration if you don't just sprint through to the cayes. The Fort George neighbourhood around the waterfront has the most interesting sights: the Museum of Belize (in a handsome former colonial jail), the House of Culture at Government House, the Fort George Lighthouse and Baron Bliss Memorial, and the Swing Bridge — still hand-operated and swung twice daily. Hugh Parkey's Dive Connection on the waterfront is the local operator for diving, snorkelling, and kayaking trips.
