Long Bay on the west end of Tortola lives up to its name — a kilometre and a half of pale sand, open to the trade winds and the swell, and quieter than Cane Garden Bay despite being arguably as beautiful. The beach is backed by low scrub and a single hotel; the swimming is good but the surf can be lively in winter.
The walk from end to end takes about half an hour and is the most pleasant pre-dinner stroll on the island. Sunset here, looking back toward the green ridge of Tortola, is excellent. Don't confuse it with Long Bay on Beef Island — different beach, different end of the island.
