North America's first Indigenous-owned winery, run by the Osoyoos Indian Band since 2002. The winery sits on a south-facing bench above town in the middle of the desert, and the setting is excellent — the tasting room terrace looks back over the lake and the valley floor. The wines are serious: Qwam Qwmt (meaning "achieving excellence" in the Syilx language) is the top-tier label, focused on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
The Qwam Qwmt Merlot is consistently one of the better Merlots produced in BC, benefiting from the intense desert heat and long growing season. The tasting fee is reasonable and the staff know the wines well. Combine with a visit to the adjacent Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre.
