Ferry Island

A wooded island in the middle of the Skeena, reached by a short bridge on the east edge of town. The city campground occupies one end; the rest is a public park with a network of easy walking and biking trails through cottonwood forest.

The island's curiosity is the carved faces — over a hundred Tolkien-esque figures sculpted into the standing tree trunks by local artist Rick Goyette over more than twenty years. They're scattered along the trails and finding them is half the point of a walk here. The east bank trail looks back across the river to downtown Terrace.
