Lakelse Lake

A long, warm lake fifteen kilometres south of Terrace, with the best sandy beaches in northwestern BC. Lakelse Lake Provincial Park covers most of the southern shore — Furlong Bay has the main day-use beach and a popular campground, while Gruchy's Beach on the eastern shore is the quieter alternative.

The lake warms up enough to actually swim in by mid-July. There's a boat launch, picnic areas, and short forest trails through old-growth cedar at the south end. In autumn the river flowing out of the lake hosts large salmon runs and is a reliable place to see eagles and bears.
