Morden sits in southern Manitoba's Pembina Valley, west of Winkler and close enough to Winnipeg for a long day trip. It is a prairie service centre first, but it has a stronger identity than many towns its size: Cretaceous sea monsters, Mennonite farm country, and a downtown that fills with corn, apple juice, and music each August.
The main reason to come is the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, whose collection comes from the old Western Interior Seaway that once covered this part of the continent. Outside town, the Pembina Threshermen's Museum keeps the machinery and buildings of prairie settlement in one place, while Lake Minnewasta gives Morden its easiest outdoor escape.
Morden is not a place to race through a checklist. It works best if you are already crossing southern Manitoba and want a town with a clear local story, a proper museum stop, and a few hours outside by the water or in the surrounding fields.
