The Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Catharines, just north of Montebello Park downtown. The current building, in a robust Romanesque-Revival idiom of brick and stone, dates from 1957 and replaced an earlier nineteenth-century church on the same site.
The interior is calm and large — exposed brick, a rose window above the nave, and a long sanctuary suited to the cathedral liturgies. Free to visit during opening hours.
