Montebello Park

Frederick Olmsted-designed downtown park with the city's signature rose garden

Montebello Park sits in the heart of downtown St. Catharines, a six-acre Victorian park laid out in 1888 by the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted (the designer of New York's Central Park). The park is shaped like a long lozenge, with curving paths, a Victorian bandshell, a large fountain, and one of the largest rose gardens in southern Ontario — more than 1,400 bushes that flower from June through October.

The park hosts the city's main festivals: the Niagara Wine Festival in September, the Folk Arts Festival in May, and SCENE in the summer. Even outside festival weekends it is the calmest green space downtown and a worthwhile detour from St. Paul Street.
