Toronto's busiest public square, on the corner of Yonge and Dundas opposite the Eaton Centre — the closest the city comes to a Times Square, ringed by giant illuminated billboards and crossed by tens of thousands of people a day. Opened in 2003 and renamed Sankofa Square in 2024 (most signs and locals still say Yonge-Dundas Square), it hosts free concerts, festivals, film screenings, and rallies through the year, with fountains that double as a splash pad in summer.
There is not much to do but stand and take in the noise and lights, but as the symbolic centre of downtown it is worth a look, especially after dark. It is the natural starting point for a walk through the Garden District.
