The cathedral, properly the Cathedral of Our Lady of Fair Haven of Roseau, took most of the nineteenth century to finish — building began in 1841 and the final tower was added in 1916. Built of dark volcanic stone in Gothic Revival style, it is one of the few major masonry buildings in a town largely built of wood.
The interior has carved-wood pews said to have been donated by neighbouring French islands, a painted ceiling and an altar of polished local stone. The cathedral suffered damage in Hurricane Maria (2017) and has been progressively repaired. Open most days; services on Sunday morning.
