Windsor Park

National cricket and football stadium

Windsor Park is the largest sporting venue in Dominica, a low-rise concrete bowl seating 12,000 on the northern edge of the town centre. The pitch is used for international cricket fixtures (England, India and the West Indies have all played here) and for football, with the Dominica national team using it as their home ground.

The biggest annual event is not sporting at all but the World Creole Music Festival, held over the last weekend of October — three nights of Caribbean music with the stadium converted into an open-air concert venue. At other times a walk past during a match gives a sense of how much sport matters to the island.

A story
The current Windsor Park stadium was rebuilt with Chinese aid in 2007 — a 12,000-seat ground that hosts Dominica's home internationals in both cricket and football. The opening was attended by Hu Jintao, then the president of China.
