Alegría

Highland Salvadoran town of flowers, coffee, cool air, and a green volcanic crater lake.

Alegría sits high in eastern El Salvador, in the coffee country around Tecapa volcano. The town is small, cool by Salvadoran standards, and known for flowers, plant nurseries, and the green crater lake just above it.

This is not a place with a long checklist. It clears the bar because Laguna de Alegría is genuinely memorable, and the town around it has a strong identity: mountain air, coffee, church bells, and ornamental plants spilling from patios and nurseries.

Come as a day trip from Usulután, Santiago de María, or Berlín. Walk the centre, climb to a viewpoint, and save enough time for the crater lake.
