Getting There

Nuuk's international airport opened in November 2024, enabling direct flights from transatlantic destinations for the first time. As of 2025, Air Greenland operates scheduled flights from Copenhagen; Icelandair flies from Reykjavik; and charter flights connect seasonally from North America. The airport is located about 4 km from the city centre.

Historically, reaching Nuuk from Europe required a connection through Kangerlussuaq — a remote airstrip 400 km north that served as the main international hub for decades. The opening of the Nuuk international airport effectively bypassed Kangerlussuaq and transformed access to the capital. Domestic connections within Greenland remain on Air Greenland, which serves Ilulissat, Sisimiut, Narsarsuaq, and other towns by small aircraft or helicopter.
