The Pelican has been a Hip Strip fixture for decades — a no-nonsense Jamaican diner with red leatherette booths, slow service, and very good food. It is where MoBay locals take visiting cousins, which is recommendation enough. The menu runs through every staple of the island kitchen: curry goat, oxtail, ackee and saltfish, escovitch snapper, jerk chicken, ginger beer.
Portions are large and the prices are about half of the tourist places either side of it. Open all day; the breakfast (Jamaican breakfast or American) is good. Cash works best.
