Cenote Azul is a large, deep open cenote just south of Bacalar. Unlike the pale shallows of the lagoon, its water turns a darker, heavier blue, making the depth immediately visible.
It is popular for swimming and as a stop on a south-shore outing. Facilities and access rules can change, so check locally before going and avoid treating the fragile edges as a playground.
