Cenote Negro, also known as the Black Cenote, is one of Bacalar's most dramatic colour contrasts. The lagoon surface shifts suddenly from bright turquoise to an inky blue where the cenote drops away.
It is best appreciated from a boat, kayak, or carefully chosen swimming spot. The attraction is visual as much as recreational: it shows the hidden depth beneath an otherwise gentle-looking lagoon.
