Cenote Esmeralda

Shoreline cenote where the lagoon shifts from pale turquoise to deeper green-blue water.

Cenote Esmeralda is one of the submerged cenotes that help give Bacalar its dramatic colour changes. From the surface, you can see the water deepen and darken where the bottom drops away.

It is usually visited as part of a boat or kayak outing rather than as a standalone land stop. Listen to local guidance about where swimming is allowed and where the bottom is too fragile.
