Avenida Yaxchilán

Downtown nightlife and dining strip in centro

The main eating and drinking street downtown, running parallel to Avenida Tulum a block to the west. The strip is lined with mid-range and inexpensive restaurants — Yucatecan, Argentine steakhouse, Italian, Lebanese, taquerías — and a steady run of bars and clubs that fill up with the local 20s-and-30s crowd from around 10 p.m. Saturday nights.

For visitors used to the price scales of the Hotel Zone, a meal here costs roughly a third of the equivalent across the bridge. Bisquets Obregón is the long-running breakfast institution. The Argentine grill Puerto Madero is the standout for a serious dinner. Most places are walkable from one another, making this the obvious one-night-in-the-real-Cancun itinerary.
