Lorenzillo's

Lagoon-side seafood restaurant with live lobster tanks

A pirate-themed lagoon-side fish house that has been one of the Hotel Zone's anchor restaurants since 1988. The setting — a giant palapa-roofed dining room jutting out into the Nichupté Lagoon — is half the appeal, especially at sunset. The signature is live Caribbean lobster from the on-premises tanks, grilled, baked, or prepared a dozen ways; the tableside Cherry Jubilee is the equally theatrical dessert.

The food is good rather than great and the prices are firmly tourist-tier (count on US$80+ per person with drinks), but the experience is unique enough to justify one meal. Tarpon swim under the deck and can be fed from the tables. Booking essential at sunset; live music most nights.

Address: Blvd. Kukulcán Km 10.5, Hotel Zone.
