The bar scene in Juárez has shifted considerably since the troubled 2000s. Avenida Juárez, which once was lined with tourist-oriented cantinas catering to American students, is quieter now but still has life. The Pronaf district and the newer development along Paseo Triunfo de la República have more modern bars. Cantinas — the traditional Mexican style, men only at the bar, free botanas with each drink — still exist in the older neighbourhoods.
