Juárez sits at 1,140 metres elevation in the Chihuahuan Desert. Summers (June–August) are hot and dry, regularly exceeding 35°C, with afternoon thunderstorms that cool things briefly. Winters are cold by Mexican standards — temperatures drop below freezing on many December and January nights, and occasional snow is not unusual. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons.
The best time to visit is October through November or March through May: mild temperatures, clear skies, and no extreme weather. December has the advantage of Christmas markets and the Virgen de Guadalupe festivities on 12 December, which draw large crowds to the cathedral and mission.
