The Mercado Juárez (city market) downtown is the traditional shopping destination: leather goods, silver jewellery, blankets, pottery, and handmade crafts. Prices are negotiable and the quality is generally honest. Along Avenida Juárez itself, the small curio shops sell similar goods and are used to foreign shoppers.
For a local shopping experience rather than a tourist one, the commercial corridor along Avenida 16 de Septiembre has clothing, shoes, electronics, and pharmacies at prices considerably below what you'd pay in the US. Wedding dresses are a well-known specialty — Avenida Lerdo near the border has a concentration of bridal shops, and the prices are a fraction of comparable US offerings.
