The Malecón is Guaymas's waterfront promenade, and the place to be at sunset when the volcanic mountains across the harbour turn deep red and the shrimp boats come in from the bay. The walk stretches along the edge of the natural harbour with views across the calm water to the dramatic peaks of the Sierra el Bacatete range.
The Statue of the Fisherman stands at the heart of the Malecón, a bronze figure with arms outstretched that has become the city's defining image. At dusk the promenade fills with families, vendors selling snacks and coconut water, and fishermen selling the day's catch directly from their boats. It's the most authentic face of Guaymas, and free.
