The most comfortable time to visit Guaymas is October to May, when temperatures are warm but not extreme (18–30°C). Summer is brutally hot, often exceeding 40°C, though resort pools and the sea provide relief. The undisputed highlight of the calendar is the Carnival in February (opening around 11 February), timed roughly with Mardi Gras — two weeks of floats, fireworks over the bay, folk dancing, and mariachi that make this one of the better small-city carnivals in northwest Mexico. November's Festival de la Calaca (Day of the Dead) is another reason to visit in autumn.
