Getting Around

Puerto Escondido is spread along several kilometres of coast, and while the town centre around the Adoquín is walkable, the beaches — especially Carrizalillo and Bacocho — require some transport.

Mototaxis: The most common way to get around. Small three-wheeled mototaxis wait at fixed stops throughout town and will take you anywhere within the main beach zone for 30–50 pesos. They are everywhere and generally safe.

Taxis: Standard taxis are also available and slightly more comfortable. Rates should be agreed before getting in. A trip from the Adoquín to Playa Bacocho costs around 80–100 pesos.

Collectivos: Shared minivans run along the main roads and are very cheap (10–15 pesos), but the routes can be confusing for first-time visitors.

Bikes and scooters: Several places in the Adoquín area rent bicycles and scooters. The town is not particularly bike-friendly — the roads are rough — but for short distances a bicycle is fine. A scooter gives you more range to reach Manialtepec and further beaches.

On foot: The Adoquín area and the main town beaches are easily walkable. The walk from the Adoquín down to Playa Carrizalillo takes about 20–25 minutes along a scenic coastal road.
