Puerto Escondido is well connected by air and by road, though the road journey from Oaxaca City is an experience in itself.
By air: Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) receives flights from Mexico City (Aeromexico, VivaAerobus, Volaris) and from Oaxaca City on small regional aircraft. The airport is about 4 kilometres west of the town centre. Taxis from the airport to the Adoquín cost around 150–200 pesos and take 10 minutes.
By road from Oaxaca City: The highway journey takes 6–8 hours via the curvaceous mountain road through the Sierra Madre del Sur. The route is spectacular — dropping from the high cold plateau at Oaxaca city (1,500m) through cloud forest and indigenous villages to the tropical coast — but demanding for drivers. Bus services run from Oaxaca's ADO terminal; the journey takes about 7 hours and crosses some dramatic mountain scenery.
From the north: Coming from Mexico City, the quickest route is by air. By road, take the Autopista del Sol to Acapulco and then Highway 200 south along the coast. The coastal highway from Acapulco is slower but beautiful.
