Cenote Kantun-Chi

Kantun-Chi is a complex of four cenotes set in a patch of jungle about 5 km south of Puerto Aventuras, operated as a small eco-park. Three of the cenotes are open-water sinkholes with platforms for swimming and snorkelling; the fourth is a semi-submerged cave with stalactites descending to the water's surface. The water is clear and cool year-round — a reliable 24°C — and visibility in the cave section is striking when the light is right.

The park is not crowded, and it lacks the theme-park overlay of some larger cenote operations on the Riviera Maya. A guide walks you between the sinkholes through a short jungle trail. The cave cenote is the best of the four: take a mask and float face-down to see how far the light penetrates into the flooded passage below.

For certified divers, cave and cavern diving into the deeper passages can be arranged through dive operators in Puerto Aventuras or Playa del Carmen. You need a cavern or full cave certification — the passages here connect into the same vast underwater network that runs beneath the entire peninsula.
