Puerto Aventuras Marina

Puerto Aventuras is built around its marina, and the marina is the main focal point of the resort — a calm, sheltered harbour lined with restaurants, dive shops, and the controversial Dolphin Discovery enclosure. Sport fishing boats depart from here from November to April for sailfish and mahi-mahi, and the marina is the departure point for all the dive and snorkel trips into the offshore reef.

The waterfront walkway around the marina makes for an easy evening stroll, and most of the resort's better restaurants have tables that look out over the moored boats. The atmosphere is gentler and less chaotic than Playa del Carmen — a reliable feature of Puerto Aventuras that its regulars value highly.

A story
The marina was the centrepiece of a speculative real-estate development launched in the late 1980s by a group of Mexican and Italian investors who planned to build a complete self-contained resort community around a man-made harbour. The project succeeded beyond its original scope: the marina is now one of the largest private marinas on the Mexican Caribbean and handles superyachts alongside the local dive boats.
